Latin America

Latin America is an astonishing blend of cultures and people. The region was home to many ancient but advanced civilizations, including the Aztecs, Toltecs, Caribs, Tupi, Maya and Inca.

Today, rampant poverty leaves many in Latin America without access to health care, clean water, education or adequate food. Other issues facing Latin Americans include the powerful drug cartels and the guerilla warfare that accompanies drug smuggling. Also, by the end of 2007, nearly 1.6 million people in Latin America were living with HIV/AIDS.

Food for the Hungry is responding to God’s call to walk alongside the poor in Latin America to bring about, by His grace, physical and spiritual transformation. You can read about a few of those transformed lives.

Caspian, who broke poverty’s choke hold on the lives of his family and his community in Bolivia.

Carlos in the Dominican Republic, who was able to finish his education and become an assistant computer teacher after Children Sponsorship gave him the courage to dream.

Guatemalan Fernando Lem Cal, who found his life’s purpose through a Food for the Hungry agricultural program that taught him to teach others.

Edwin Guzman, who went from being a homeless 12-year-old living in the park to a pastor introducing his fellow Nicaraguans to the love of Jesus.

Mayssa, a Peruvian girl who learned how God could cleanse her soul through a unique anti-parasite program.

Michelle, a girl who was physically transformed after receiving treatment at the Hope for Haiti health clinic
